Social media opens windows into the lives of people we might not ever meet through other means. It allows us to see things from other perspectives. It empowers us to better understand and empathize.
If we choose to use it this way.
A few weeks ago, a gunman opened fire in Club Q, a venue that has long been known as a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community in my adopted hometown of Colorado Springs. Five precious lives were horrifically ended, around twenty people were visibly injured, and many more suffer wounds that can’t be seen.
Countless people around the world are grieving, hurting, terrified, and angry.
Across social media they are sharing their experiences, their fears, and their hopes for a world where everyone is safe to be themselves.
Please seek out their voices.
Choose to listen.
Strive to see through their eyes.
Use social media to see "us” instead of “them.”
Use it to find ways to support each other and build a better, safer world together.
Please.
Lives literally depend on our willingness to see and listen to our fellow human beings — and social media gives us a powerful means to do so.
I wrote Digital Grace and Digital Kindness because I believe in the power of social media to open our eyes, increase empathy, and connect us. Many people have told me these books changed the way they feel about social media and the way they use it. I hope to continue that impact by offering both books for free at regular intervals. FREE KINDLE DOWNLOADS DECEMBER 19-23 . Please share with anyone you think may be interested.
Additionally, 100% OF DECEMBER BOOK ROYALTIES WILL BE DONATED TO CLUB Q FUNDRAISERS.
